In This Together: Art, Belonging, and the Urgency of Social Connection

November 18, 2026 - July 3, 2027

At a time when loneliness and isolation are shaping how we live, work, and relate to one another, In This Together brings art and research into conversation—exploring what connection looks like, and why it matters.

Developed in collaboration with Dr. Julianne Holt-Lunstad, the exhibition invites Utah artists to interpret connection through their own lens—revealing what research alone cannot. The work draws on national and global research on social connection and health, translated through artistic practice.

The Exhibition

In This Together will feature up to 15 artworks by Utah artists, selected for their artistic excellence and their ability to engage ideas of belonging, connection, and community.

Rather than illustrating research directly, the exhibition explores how artists interpret connection—through relationships, place, identity, memory, and lived experience. This may take the form of traditional artistic forms like painting, sculpture, ceramics and more, but we are also open to explorations that involve newer media and genres such as sound/video art, performance, social practice, and digital art.

The exhibition will be accompanied by interpretive materials and public programs designed to encourage reflection, dialogue, and connection.

Call for Art

We are seeking thoughtful, original work that explores social connection in ways that feel authentic to your practice.

You do not need to translate research literally. We’re interested in how you interpret the research, and how you see and express connection—what brings people together, what pulls them apart, and what it means to belong.
