August 6, 2020 - Torn Paper Project

For this art project, we’ll be tearing pieces of paper to create a layered artwork. This project is inspired by a work in the Museum’s Permanent Collection entitled Symphony in Colour (1930), oil on canvas, by Phillip Henry Barkdull.

We’ll be using different patterns and images to create colorful collages inspired by an artwork in our Permanent Collection titled, Entertaining: Favorite Ladies II (c1992-1994) oil on canvas, by Jeanne Leighton Lundberg Clarke.

Math and art combine in this project that is connected to an artwork from our Permanent Collection titled, The Blackbird That Got Into the Garden (1993) oil on canvas, by Karl G. Ackerman. We'll explore arranging shapes in a pattern and make our own tessellations!

Throughout the year the Museum will open our studio space with various supplies for art projects. Get inspiration from our great collection as you make art in this casual setting. Supplies will be available from 10:00am-4:00pm.
