Primal Forces: Earth

While quilts often evoke a sense of comfort, warmth, and safety, we rarely consider the forceful processes required to create them. Like the actions that form and re-form our planet, quilts are created through brutal means—in the case of a quilt, material is cut or torn, pinned, pierced by needle and thread, worked, and reworked by the artist until an aesthetic object is formed. Primal Forces: Earth explores both the inherent and human-mediated forces that impact the earth on which we live, all through the medium of textiles. Come learn how art quilts can be used in cross-curricular lessons adaptable for different grades!

Registration closes at midnight on October 11, 2023.

Families come in many forms and can be biological and/or chosen. Understand students better by understanding their situations and how they thrive in a family, while making your classroom its own sort of family.

This evening will include community members sharing their personal connections to Tatau: Marks of Polynesia before participants spend time finding their own art connections. We’ll finish the night with a special hands-on activity led by Esmeralda Torres, introducing us to the wonderful world of cacao and her heritage from Chiapas, Mexico.

**It is highly encouraged to participate in person for this event to have the full hands-on experience.
